R.L. Drake Demonstrates Advanced PEG Encoder-Decoder Solution at SCTE•ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2017

The End-to-End Solution Utilizes Zixi UDP-Based Protocol Optimized for Video Transport for Delivery of PEG Programming Over the Open Internet

SPRINGBORO, OH / October 10, 2017 / R.L. Drake Holdings, LLC announced it will showcase their new PEG encoders and ND-24-IP decoder with Zixi Protocol at the SCTE•ISBE Cable-Tec Expo in Booth # 437 from October 17-20, 2017, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The latest in their line of PEG encoders include a new version of the PEG-NE24-IP-C and the PEG PLUS. The PEG-NE24-IP-C is a stand-alone H.264 digital video PEG channel encoder with a single SD/HD-SDI and composite video input. For MPEG-2 video compression with similar input and output capability, we offer the PEG PLUS, which supports both MPEG-2 and H.264 encoding. Both of these new encoders can come with an optional Zixi output protocol to provide the ability to stream content over an unmanaged network, including the public internet.

The PEG-NE24-IP-C features selectable SDI PCM-embedded audio, or analog left and right audio. A second audio program (SAP) channel is available via an SDI PCM-embedded audio track. Audio compression can be either Dolby® Digital, MPEG1-Layer2, or AAC stereo. The output is IP-encapsulated via a single SFP Ethernet port. A separate RJ45 Ethernet port is provided for control and monitoring.

“Our partnership with Zixi has allowed us to provide our customers with the ability to adapt to the open internet as a way to transport broadcast quality video over standard IP networks,” said Don Young, director of business development at R.L. Drake. “Our end-to-end IP video delivery solution is perfect for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint applications over managed and unmanaged networks. Content programming can include high school sports events, live coverage of town hall and school committee meetings, and local citizens content.”

The ND-24-IP is a low-cost professional MPEG-2 and H.264 network decoder that is capable of receiving content from clear QAM, off-air (8VSB), and IP sources. The unit simultaneously outputs video content in SDI, HDMI, and component formats. SDI outputs are available in 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, or SD-SDI formats. The ND-24-IP is best used in conjunction with the PEG PLUS or PEG-NE24-IP-C with Zixi protocol, and a Zixi Link License to provide a reliable point-to-point IP video transport anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Our ND-24-IP can also be used in a point-to-multipoint application to decode a Zixi protocol stream from a Zixi Broadcaster.

Drake, together with Blonder Tongue, will bring more than 140 years of combined engineering and manufacturing excellence with solid histories of delivering reliable, quality products to the 2017 NAB Show, on April 24-27, in Booth # SU7521, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

PEG Broadcast Support

R.L. Drake will demonstrate its new PEG PLUS, an MPEG-2 or H.264 digital video PEG channel encoder with a single SD/HD-SDI, or Composite Video and L+R audio input, and an IP output via a single SFP Ethernet port. A separate RJ45 10/100 Ethernet port is provided for control and monitoring. PCM-embedded audio encoding can be processed to either Dolby® Digital, MPEG1-Layer2 stereo, or AAC stereo. The unit is capable of outputting resolutions of 480i, 720p, and 1080i.

Broadcast Quality IP Video Distribution

The PEG PLUS is available with a Zixi output protocol option, to provide the ability to stream HD content over unmanaged networks, including the open internet. The Zixi option is an UPD-based video-optimized protocol to allow Professional Broadcasters, Sports Networks, and Service Providers adapt to the public internet using standard IP networks as a way to ingest and transport broadcast quality video.

Digital Signage HD Encoders

R.L. Drake will showcase two digital signage HD encoder options for the attendees at 2017 NAB Show. The newly released DSE24A is a single channel HD encoder with RF QAM and IP outputs. This unit encodes an uncompressed video source from devices with HDMI (non-HDCP), Component, Composite or VGA sources. The DSE24A encodes the incoming video to MPEG-2, and then it is internally connected to a QAM modulator and low-noise upconverter.

New DSE24A

R.L. Drake’s DSE 2 PLUS is capable of MPEG-2 or MPEG-4/H.264 encoding up to two uncompressed programs from HDMI (non-HDCP), Component, Composite or VGA sources to a single multiplexed RF QAM output.

Both the DSE24A and DSE 2 PLUS are each noteworthy choices for distributing video over legacy coaxial networks, while providing instant access to an extensive network of digital displays, capable of viewing valuable ad-based, or informational video in a vibrant HD format.

Scalable Encoder Host Series

R.L. Drake will also demonstrate its EH244 Series encoder host, an ideal platform for MPEG-2 or MPEG-4/H.264 video encoding needs, due to its many flexible configurable output options. Each unit is designed to house any combination of Drake’s popular HD or SD encoder modules.

The EH244 has a total of six (6) input bays and an internal multiplexer that allows users to construct custom program multiplexes, and output them in any combination from RF QAM, ASI (transport stream) or IP, based on the output configuration order.
